The Order Of Isshin-Ryu Australia

The Order of Isshin-Ryu was founded on January 15, 1971 by Master Toby Cooling.

The roots of the Order of Isshin-Ryu are traced back to Okinawa, as Master Toby Cooling is a

direct student of Grand Master Tatsuo Shimabuku, founder of Isshin-Ryu Karate.

The Order of Isshin-Ryu (Australia) is a non-profit organisation, dedicated to passing on the knowledge of Isshin-Ryu Karate. We have hundreds of members in The Order of Isshin-Ryu

(USA & Aust.).

Sensei Danny Goding petitioned to become a member of The Order of Isshin-Ryu in 2000.

After quite a long and sometimes hard road, the time finally came for Sensei Goding to

spend time in the USA with board members of The Order of Isshin-Ryu and after a multitude

of training sessions with the various board members and Evaluation/Shiai participation was proud

to be accepted as a member of The Order of Isshin-Ryu.

Sensei William Sullivan 6th Dan, spent time in Australia back in 2001 to help with the transition

of our school over to the Order of Isshin-Ryu and we are proud to call him our Sensei.

Sensei Sullivan has devoted so much time to helping Sensei Goding for over 4 years with his

guidance as our club Sensei and as a friend! We are anxiously waiting for Sensei Sullivan to

return to Australia with his lovely wife Jane!

The Order of Isshin-Ryu (Australia) is dedicated to teaching quality Isshin-Ryu on behalf of the Liverpool RSL Youth Club and The Liverpool PCYC (Miller).

Our aim is to teach quality Isshin-Ryu Karate as per the principles and guidelines set out by The Order of Isshin-Ryu board.

When you join The Order of Isshin-Ryu Australia you pay your dues via the respect, loyalty, dedication, and hard work that The Order of Isshin-Ryu is renowned for! Then you reap the

The Order of Isshin-Ryu Australia is registered with the Australian Sports Commission

The Order of Isshin-Ryu Australia is a member of the MAIA

We have tournament training as well, bearing in mind that you do not have to enter

tournaments or become tournament officials to earn your belts. Please see the tournament

section for clarification!

The Order of Isshin-Ryu has over 900 members and over 20 Dojo!

Those that know and respect The Order of Isshin-Ryu have no need to have us join their

associations as we are all a part of the "Isshin-Ryu Family" and train together as

Master Shimabuku would have wanted us to!

The Order of Isshin-Ryu Australia issues all legitimate Dan ranks as well as Kyu with

the permission of The Order of Isshin-Ryu U.S.A.

These ranks are recognised WORLD WIDE !

Kobu-Jutsu (Weapons) are an integral part of the Order of Isshin-Ryu syllabus! Weapons

are taught at from Sho-Dan (Black Belt) onwards as the student is given the opportunity to understand and grow with our style before undertaking weapons training!

Kobu-Jutsu (Weapons) is not a separate syllabus of The Order of Isshin-Ryu Australia.
